Sinn Fein not interested in bringing good government to Northern Ireland

08 December 2010

Responding to comments by Health Minister Michael McGimpsey on the failure to agree a budget TUV vice-chair Keith Harbinson said:

“Once again we have evidence of the inability of Belfast and St Andrews Agreement devolution to deliver for the ordinary people of Northern Ireland.

“Again, those who sit around the same cabinet table have come out publicly to point the finger at governmental colleagues.

“No other government in the Western World could witness such public spats between those who should be united on a common policy platform and hope to survive.

“The truth is that Sinn Fein/IRA’s desire to obtain agreement with the other parties on a budget is secondary to their overall objective to destabilise Northern Ireland. They are not interested in bringing good government to a country they don’t believe in!

“It’s time for Unionists to realise that mandatory coalition can never deliver good and stable government for Northern Ireland. We need proper democratic government where partners who share power are united by a common policy platform, and committed to work together to deliver for the people. The dysfunctional sectarian form of government with which we are currently lumbered has failed.’
