Allister comments on HET report

01 December 2010

Statement by Jim Allister:

“There will many people in Northern Ireland who will, once again, feel today that their murdered loved ones have been forgotten while incidents in which the security forces were involved are gone over with a fine tooth comb.

“What we are witnessing with this drip feed of investigations are republicans taking the opportunity to rewrite history. From the highest level, including within Stormont, there is a deliberate ignoring of the mass of evidence linking prominent Republicans to the most horrendous of crimes while the actions of the security forces – who were a force for peace – are villified at every opportunity.

"If this was a normal society not only would convicted terrorists be unable to sit in government, but there would be a fullscale inquiry into the rampant terrorist involvement of Joint First Minister McGuinness. Instead, he is preserved in government and his past covered up while every action of the security forces are raked over and endlessly blackened. This is how the new Northern Ireland works: no justice for the innocent and reward for the guilty!"
