DUP Conference hot air didn't last long!

30 November 2010

Statement by TUV leader Jim Allister:

"On Saturday last Peter Robinson wanted the voters to believe the DUP was moving away from D'Hondt and mandatory coalition. Yet, today, Mr Poots puts a Bill before the Assembly which extends D'Hondt to Councils. So far from diminishing D'Hondt and moving away from mandatory coalition the DUP, sadly, is in the business of bedding it into even local government. As ever, the DUP's actions speak louder than their empty words.

"How can the DUP creditably claim to be fighting for the abolition of mandatory power sharing at Stormont when at the same time they bring it into councils?

"It seems that far from highlighting the democratic absurdity of the system the DUP are committed to making D' Hondt MORE acceptable in Northern Ireland".
