TUV welcomes Councillor Tweed on to Council team
06 November 2010
Traditional Unionist Voice has gained its 5th councillor on Ballymena Borough Council with the confirmation that Cllr David Tweed has now designated as a TUV councillor.
Welcoming the decision of the former rugby star, TUV Leader Jim Allister said, “Davy Tweed, who left the DUP for the same principled reasons that saw TUV come into existence, namely our opposition to terrorists in government and belief that the present form of devolution is unworkable, as the last four years have proved, is a welcome addition to our Council team in Ballymena.
“His many years of experience as a councillor adds to the depth and breadth of the TUV team. I, therefore, welcome him and look forward to working with him in the area.”
Leader of the TUV group on the Council, Alderman Jim Alexander, said, “We’ve long worked closely with Cllr Tweed and thus we welcome him on board, knowing that his experience and contribution will strengthen our impact as a group on behalf of local ratepayers.”
Councillor Tweed himself said, “In joining TUV I am not just declaring my support for the party’s strong and consistent stand and its analysis of the political situation, but seeking to work more closely with colleagues so that together we can deliver more for those we represent.
“Having remained faithful to the traditional unionist principles on which I was first elected, joining the one party which still holds to those values is a natural and logical step for me. I look forward to continuing to serve the people of Ballymena South as part of the TUV team.”
