‘Man A’ must be made amenable through a European Arrest Warrant - Allister
02 November 2010
Statement by TUV Leader Jim Allister QC:
“After tonight’s BBC Spotlight programme it is imperative that the PSNI issue a European Arrest Warrant in respect of the suspect, ‘Man A’.
“With ‘Man A’ refusing to agree to return to this jurisdiction voluntarily, this available resource should be used. He must be made amenable if he is a suspect.
“The PSNI appears to have sat on its hands in this regard for the 4 years that ‘Man A’ has lived, apparently openly, in the Republic. Indeed, did their intelligence and much lauded Gardia assistance fail to the point that the PSNI didn’t even know ‘Man A’ was across the border? If so, it doesn’t say much for the vigour of any Claudy inquiry, if the BBC was able to unearth his whereabouts and interview him but the PSNI could not!
“The pursuit of justice for the Claudy victims has been ineffective for too long. Now, that ‘Man A’ is within their reach through a European Arrest Warrant, let us see him arrested and returned to Northern Ireland.”
