DUP dodging Stormont's sacred cows of waste - TUV

01 November 2010

“DUP Leader Peter Robinson’s economic proposals have been described by the TUV as  “unbalanced, inadequate and  spectacularly failing to tackle the biggest causes of economic waste” TUV economics  spokesman David Vance said; “If Mr Robinson was serious in tackling waste, he could start by reducing the dysfunctional Executive’s own budget by rather more than a risible 1.3% per annum. Why does he seek to prop up the cash that his Executive gets whilst punishing homeowners by substantially hiking up their costs to an ever soaring inflation rate? He demands a two year pay freeze on all Public Sector workers earning more than £21,000 a year whilst still allowing the fatcats in the Quangos and the Boards to continue banking their astronomical salaries.  Applying cuts in the wrong places will harm our economy whereas one instant source of over £100m saving per annum would be to axe the bloated pointless North-South bodies. TUV believes in fiscal rectitude but anchored in common sense and economic efficiency.”

Mr Vance also added, "Of course, because of the absurd Sinn Fein veto to which the DUP agreed in their failed system of government, the DUP can propose what it likes on the economy, or education, or anything else, but it can deliver none of it without McGuinness' authority. So, once more hot air will be the primary product of today's event."
