UUP and TUV meet

29 October 2010

"The Ulster Unionist Party leadership and the leadership of Traditional Unionist Voice recently met to discuss issues of common concern within unionism.

"In a useful exchange of views, among the issues discussed were the need to reverse the legislative change which permits a Sinn Fein First Minister to be foisted on a unionist majority in the Assembly, deficiencies in the present structures at Stormont and the necessity of maximising the unionist vote in upcoming elections.

"The Ulster Unionist Party was represented by Tom Elliott and Danny Kennedy and TUV by Jim Allister, William Ross and Keith Harbinson.

Speaking after the meeting, Jim Allister said, "This was a worthwhile meeting where each frankly set out their perspectives on the way ahead and hopefully identified areas where progress needs to be made.

"Of course, Unionism is a broad church but talking together about key issues in an important part of moving Northern Ireland forward to more durable, democratic and workable devolution."
