Why is Pomeroy Business Park being put to political use?

28 October 2010

TUV Leader Jim Allister, who, at the time* Pomeroy Business Park (Rowan Tree Centre) was controversially given approval on Forest Service land, requiring considerable deforestation, raised issues that, given the location, it would be a cold house for unionists, has demanded to know why Sinn Fein is being allowed to use the premises for meetings.

“Though I believe this development, which was built with £1.2m of public money, was always going to struggle to obtain a cross-community persona, the fact that it is now a regular meeting haunt for Sinn Fein deepens and fuels its perception as a single identity facility.

“Public funding was granted on the premise that it would be a cross-community project, but its exclusive and divisive political use by Sinn Fein suggests intent on their part to brand it as their own and a failure to establish the neutral environment that would be expected in a business park.

“I believe, therefore, that those overseeing this publicly funded facility should cease permitting such divisive political use.”
