Wilson admits Stormont is failing

27 September 2010

Statement by TUV leader Jim Allister:

“The comments of the Finance Minister are yet further proof – coming, as they do, hard on the heels of the First Ministers’ very public spat about the reason for their meeting with the Chancellor tomorrow – that mandatory coalition cannot deliver the stable and durable government Northern Ireland is crying out for.

“Can any one imagine George Osborne having to state publicly that his cabinet colleagues were failing to cooperate with him and hindering the work of the coalition government at Westminster?

“It is becoming apparent that there are enormous divisions within the Executive over how to deal with the current financial crisis. It should be evident to all that an executive which cannot find common purpose and pull together in the face of such a challenge has failed at the most basic and fundamental level.

“For three years the Executive has failed to deliver on small issues as well as more significant matters such as education. Now, as we face a period where very serious financial decisions have to be made, which will effect us all regardless of age, religion or social class, it is obvious that this Storrmont is simply not fit for purpose.”
