It is the DUP not Orange or others who have failed to deliver on parading

27 September 2010

Statement by TUV Leader Jim Allister:-

"No matter how much Peter Robinson and the DUP lash out in a fit of pique, the inescapable truth is that it is the DUP which has failed to deliver a better way forward on parading. It was they who promised they'd sorted parading as a quid pro quo over gifting Sinn Fein its demands on policing and justice. Now, we find Sinn Fein got what they wanted but their cheque on parading to the DUP has bounced. In the face of their own lamentable failure they now disingenuously try to pile the blame on others.

"The DUP/Sinn Fein proposals were, at best, no improvement on the failed Parades Commission, because they were built on the twin pillars of enhancing the need to consult with Sinn Fein orchestrated 'residents groups' and the delivery of decision-making to adjudicators where McGuinness had his own hand-picked placemen, who could even be convicted terrorists, because criminal convictions were not a bar. Little wonder such skewed and ill-considered proposals met with rejection."
