The latest Sinn Fein power grab

13 September 2010

Statement by TUV Leader Jim Allister:-

"The announcement by Murphy of his intention to act outside the terms of the Executive's 'Programme for Government',  by renationalising the Water Service, is indicative of Sinn Fein's utter disregard for the concepts of collective responsibility essential to joined-up government. We will now see fresh dysfunctionalism at Stormont over this issue. Consumers will be the losers in this ensuing tug-of-war over the Water Service.

"This is what happens when government is formed not on the basis of agreed objectives but on the back of a spurious 'as of right' inclusion of all parties, irrespective of their diametically opposed idealogies. Only voluntary coalition, where parties agree their programme before assuming office, will ever bring devolution that works.

"I also suspect Murphy sees his announcement as a convenient distraction from his own mishandling and political meddling in the affairs of NIW. Not satisfied with suplanting previous non-executive directors with his own placemen, including a Sinn Fein acolyte, he now aspires to total control by renationalising water and bringing it fully within his fiefdom at DRD."
