"About time" says Allister in welcoming Rose Energy approval

31 August 2010

TUV Leader Jim Allister, one of the first politicians to back the Rose Energy project and a staunch proponent ever since, has welcomed the planning approval at Glenavy, but criticised the inordinate delay in reaching a decision.

"Having supported the Rose Energy application from the outset, I am delighted that at last planning approval has issued. I must say, however, that the delay has been inordinate. This essential project should by now have been well under way instead of only now getting the go ahead. The foot-dragging, especially in circumstances where the poultry sector is under immense compliance pressure from the EU, has been very disappointing. But, better late than never.

"The sooner this progressive project proceeds the sooner all the hysteria and misinformation of its opponents will be demonstrated to be fatuous and false. I look forward to a state of the art biomass plant at Glenavy which will give both long-term service to the poultry industry and contribute hugely to economic growth in Northern Ireland."
