Monumental failures at Hillsborough coming home to roost - Allister

08 July 2010

Statement by TUV Leader Jim Allister:-

"It is  now clear that in its desperation to cave in to IRA/Sinn Fein over their strategic demands on policing and justice, the DUP at Hillsborough led the Loyal Orders and everyone else up a cul-de-sac on parading. Having produced an unworkable hotch-potch of proposals, which are rightly meeting with rejection, the DUP has left Sinn Fein to bank all the concessions they won on policing and justice, but Unionism is empty handed.

"Where now the 'clever device' which Peter Robinson boasted he had to abort policing and justice devolution if acceptable proposals on parading were not put in place? Or, was that just another empty ploy to pacify the 'Snowmen' and get past the policing and justice vote? It looks like it!

"There is no point or integrity in now trying to scapegoat the Orange Order or anyone else for the failure to deliver on parading. It was the DUP which promised delivery and it is its policy which is now in tatters, while Sinn Fein laugh all the way to its next staging post."
