Why the Conspiracy of Silence?

17 June 2010

Statement by TUV Leader Jim Allister

“Why has it been concealed from the Ulster public that recently in the Republic a massive money counterfeiting operation, run by IRA/Sinn Fein, was discovered by the Gardai and Interpol? Interpol described the find in the IRA bunker as, "one of the most sophisticated money counterfeiting set-ups uncovered in Europe to date".*

“The fact that it is run by 3 current Sinn Fein members and a convicted IRA murderer - so precious to the Sinn Fein leadership that a special pardon was negotiated for him - makes this not just another criminal enterprise but something inextricably linked to a party of government. Sinn Fein was supposed to have abandoned all criminality and was obligingly given a clean bill of health by the IMC and others so that they could be elevated into government. Now, we find they are still up to their neck in what they always did best. But does anyone care?

“Why the media silence on the Co Laois discovery? Why the complicit silence from those that bought the spin about IRA/Sinn Fein’s transformation so that they could get into government with them?

“Anywhere else linkage of a party in government to such criminality would be headline news for days, with multiple enquiries and investigations, and political fall-out, but in Northern Ireland total silence! The reason, sadly, is that ‘protecting the process’ is more important than the uncomfortable truth.  Keeping IRA/Sinn Fein in government, no matter what they do, is the mantra. In consequence they have a licence to kill, as in the case of Paul Quinn, and now, it seems, a licence to print money.

“I have already written to the First Minister, the Justice Ministers, north and south, and the Chief Constable, inviting their responses and urging full investigations, but, I fear, collectively they will turn a blind eye.”
