TUV's 7 Point Pledge
01 May 2010
TUV has launched a 7 point pledge to the voters of Northern Ireland.Leader Jim Allister said, "With pledge-breaking more in fashion than pledge-keeping and with the road since the last General Election littered with broken DUP pledges, probity in public office is at a low ebb, but TUV is a party apart. We are driven by conscience and conviction, not by the expediency of clinging to power, any power. Thus, now it is timely to issue our 7 solemn pledges to the electorate of Northern Ireland:-
- Integrity in public office and absolute transparency on expenses
- Full time representation in Parliament
- Engagement in Parliament on national and not just local issues
- Upholding the Union, with durable democratic devolution to replace the shambles at Stormont
- Resisting, not empowering, republicanism
- Pursuing sound national economic policies based on living within our means rather than boom and bust
- First class constituency service, fighting tenaciously for constituents.
"We believe election pledges are made to be kept, not broken and form a binding contract between the elected and the elector. At the end of a Parliament an MP should be able to look his constituents in the eye and say he/she did exactly as they promised. TUV will expect and accept no less from those we see elected."
