BBC & UTV gag and insult one third of Unionists

22 April 2010

TUV Leader Jim Allister QC has hit out at the gross discrimination and bias of the BBC and UTV which will see the Northern Ireland leader's debate deliberately restricted to pro-terrorist in government parties.

In a statement the TUV Leader said:-

"At the behest of their political masters BBC NI and UTV have decided to suppress freedom of expression for those opposed to terrorists in government by deliberately excluding TUV from the Leader's debates. Last June TUV had 14% of the vote, SDLP 16%, UUP 17% and DUP 18%, yet the former is excluded and each of the latter included. Voters will draw their own conclusions!

"Not for the first time BBC and UTV are seeking to shape the outcome of the election by consciously keeping off air anti-establishment views. By their actions they show their inherent political bias and control. Rather than objective public and commercial broadcasters BBC and UTV are showing themselves political pawns of those determined to gag any message that dares to challenge the pro-Belfast Agreement parties. Excluding the voice of at least one third of the Unionist electorate is a disgrace, but entirely compatible with the political management of BBC and UTV.

"Making the debates a zone free from opposition to terrorists in government and free from criticism of the shambles at Stormont may be the way of these media, but it will not be the way of the ballot bax, no matter how much they connive to distort the result."
