NIE compensation an insult

21 April 2010

Statement by TUV Leader Jim Allister:-

"It is quite appalling that after the days of hardship and loss inflicted on so many NIE customers that this company, which makes huge profits, tries to get away with a paltry payment restricted to only those still off for 5 days by Easter Sunday.  This arbitrary and penny-pinching decision is not acceptable. I am calling on the Regulator to intervene and insist that customers affected beyond 24 hours are duly compensated. A separate payment for each 24 hour period thereafter without supply would be much more equitable.

"Bearing in mind the huge costs of electricity to Northern Ireland consumers, the profits of NIE and the losses suffered by households, NIE must be forced to do better."
