The real choice in North Antrim

19 April 2010

Speaking after he was formally nominated as a candidate in North Antrim, TUV Leader Jim Allister QC said it was becoming increasingly clear that North Antrim was a two horse race.

"I am greatly encouraged by the level of support and enthusiasm evident from across the constituency for our campaign. It is clear that the choice is between continuing the overbearing Paisley dynasty, into its flawed second generation, or a fresh start in North Antrim, free from the double and triple jobbing of the past and the power-hungry abandonment of solemn pledges against terrorists in government.

"The yah boo politics of Mr Paisley Junior is equally playing badly, I believe. People are looking for stability and maturity in their MP and recognise that it's better to have someone with proven experience of life and work outside of politics, rather than a career politician to whom clinging to office is a financial necessity.

"I am also encouraged by the number of Ulster Unionists who recognise that it is by voting for me in this two horse race that they can make a real difference in North Antrim and secure seismic political change. By uniting former DUP voters and UUP supporters we are forging a real new force in North Antrim, something which I believe will be a feature of strength and growth across the whole Province in the future.

"If elected I will ensure North Antrim is never again voiceless in Parliament, as it was in the last parliament when it came to the vote for a Lisbon Treaty referendum and reducing the abortion limit. I will engage on national and not just local issues in parliament and ensure that within the constituency first class representation exists for every constituent."
