TUV's Opening Statement in General Election

06 April 2010

TUV’s opening election statement

As the election campaign gets underway, TUV has said that with the DUP mired again in scandal and the UUP in considerable turmoil, the opportunities for Traditional Unionist Voice in this election are immense. Untainted by the shambles at Stormont which DUP/Sinn Fein rule has delivered, the TUV has a unique stand and appeal in this election.

Commenting TUV Leader Jim Allister QC said “TUV looks forward to building on the remarkable foundation laid in the European Election and to challenging strongly in key seats, and not just in North Antrim. Free from the sleaze of the expenses and other scandals and expounding a consistent stand against terrorists in government, TUV will appeal to principled Unionists tired of the dysfunctional mess at Stormont and the broken promises of others.

In the last General Election the DUP fought on a manifesto which solemnly pledged mandatory coalition with Sinn Fein was “out of the question”. Now, they are their buddies in government and jointly presiding over the most failing regime, particularly in education, seen anywhere in the western world. With the Ulster Unionists in a failed marriage with the Tories and unable to present cogent opposition to terrorist-inclusive government, TUV, I believe, will be the obvious and compelling choice for many traditional unionists of all shades.”
