DUP give snowmen a bad name

09 March 2010

Statement by TUV Leader Jim Allister QC:-

“Today will go down as a day of victory for IRA/Sinn Fein.

“They obtained their long-standing strategic objective of unpicking the DUP’s triple lock on policing and justice and securing those powers for their own terrorist-inclusive Executive, where they will now exercise the same toxic veto that paralyses government as and when it suits the Sinn Fein agenda.

“The DUP was the handmaiden which delivered this republican triumph. Having trod a path littered with multiple broken pledges – like Dodds and Robinson’s ‘political lifetimes’, Morrow’s ‘not in the life of this Assembly’, Campbell’s ‘6 years’, Donaldson’s Full-Time Reserve pre-condition and latterly Nigel Dodds making UUP support ‘essential’ -  the DUP emerges with their credibility in tatters. The supposed ‘strongmen’ of the DUP have given snowmen a bad name.

“At least the Ulster Unionists had the self-respect and dignity to stand their ground, despite a maelstrom of orchestrated and obscene pressure. By stooping to these levels the DUP and others showed their desperation.

“Anyone who thinks that putting the pointless puppet, David Ford, notionally in charge of justice will spell the end of republican terrorism, will be in for a rude awakening.”
