Propaganda reaching crescendo, but facts concealed

08 March 2010

Statement by TUV Leader Jim Allister QC:-

“In what should be a moment of truth over policing and justice, including the uncomfortable truth that the Hillsborough DUP/Sinn Fein deal gifts policing and justice powers to a terrorist-inclusive Executive, disingenuous spin is the currency of the moment.

“From a rigged NIO poll, constructed on loaded questions to get the desired answers, through a phoney pretence of consultation – the DUP did not hold even one public meeting to gauge ‘community confidence’, to blackmail over a mythical £800m, the propaganda of the last few weeks is reaching a crescendo that would do the old Soviet polit bureau proud. As for voices that dare to say it is wrong to transfer policing and justice to a terrorist-inclusive executive, at any stage, well, needless to say, they most assuredly must be kept off the airwaves.

“But to take just one of the spin lines, the £800m, I have yet to see Minister Wilson or the NIO set out in tabular form just exactly how this ‘extra’ £800m is made up. Certainly, the Prime Minister’s letter of 25 October 2009 comes no where near tabulating this figure, so, my challenge today is let someone, NIO or the magicians of DFP, set out exactly how this £800m, used so freely as political bait, is formulated, and how much, if any, is new money. No smoke, no mirrors, just plain unvarnished figures, please!”
