Double standards and the Saville Inquiry

05 March 2010

Statement by TUV Leader Jim Allister QC

“The ‘Bloody Sunday’ report, when it comes, will do more to establish a hierarchy of victims than anything heretofore, because it will elevate one incident to a level of scrutiny and expenditure (£200m plus) unequalled despite multiple incidents of mass murder by Martin McGuinness’ IRA. Every day of the week could be filled with the epithet ‘bloody’, because of the actions of the IRA, but only events in Londonderry will ever get the Saville treatment.

“McGuinness is very keen to get Saville published, but he wasn’t so keen to tell the full truth when he appeared before the Inquiry, putting his IRA ‘code of honour’ before telling all he knew. So, having been denied full disclosure by McGuinness and his ilk, the Saville Report will not tell the full story.

“Typical of the IRA they want to hold their own murderous secrets but demand full exposure and inquiry for everyone else.

“If ever there was an inquiry which was justified it is one to investigate all the activities of Joint First Minister McGuinness. Is there a country anywhere else in the democratic world where someone of the infamy of McGuinness could hold the highest office in the land without an investigation into his hidden and wicked past? But, in new Northern Ireland we excoriate the security forces but elevate the terrorists.”
