Another DUP somersault underway

04 March 2010

Statement by TUV Leader Jim Allister QC:-

"Still petrified of an Assembly election, it seems tonight that Peter Robinson is preparing for another spectacular somersault on the policing and justice issue.

He set the test for community confidence as requiring support from the UUP in the Assembly on 9th March. Now, seemingly unable to obtain cover from the UUP he is preparing nonetheless to vote through his disastrous deal with Sinn Fein despite assurances to the contrary to the 14 snowmen and despite knowing that his party only represents a minority of Unionist opinion. Hiding behind unseen opinion polls and stage-managed private meetings does nothing to conceal the power-clinging exercise in which the DUP is involved.

"Saying one thing and doing another is of course now standard practice for the DUP, but this latest abandoned promise only adds to the contempt in which such politicians are held."
