DUP/Sinn Fein love darkness rather than light

22 February 2010

Statement by TUV Leader Jim Allister QC:-

“Yesterday we had a bellicose diatribe from Joint First Minister McGuinness against the Orange community. So much, it would seem, for any new era of understanding. The Sinn Fein message remains ‘You can have any sort of equality, provided it is the brand made in Connolly House.”  Not much sign in Strabane of the enlightenment or breakthrough of the supposedly ‘made in Ulster’ Hillsborough bonhomie.

“Part of the Hillsborough deal was a Working Group on parades, well, not so much a working group as an ‘ourselves alone’ cabal between DUP and Sinn Fein partners. Now, maybe to conceal their embarrassment over lack of product or so that the 14 snowmen don’t see just how much they were conned, it is suggested, after all the hype, the report of the Working Group will not even be published.

“I am calling for its full publication, along with all minutes and support documentation. We have had enough secret and side deals, let the searchlight of truth shine into the dark corners of the Sinn Fein/DUP deal, including their joint thinking on parades. What do they fear?

“What a remarkable regime we live under! The First Minister can unilaterally clear himself through secret advice, despite ongoing multiple inquiries, Sinn Fein can produce a £20m rabbit out of the hat for the Irish language, as a secret Hillsborough side deal, and now the Joint First Ministers are poised to keep secret the offering of their ministerial sect on parades. What are they ashamed of? Does their contempt for transparency and due process know no bounds?”
