Kelly right to urge Robinson to publish 'secret advice'

17 February 2010

Statement by TUV Leader Jim Allister QC

"Sir Christopher Kelly is right to join in the call for Peter Robinson to publish the counsel's opinion which it is claimed cleared the First Minister in respect of the Ministerial Code (only).

"Both the opinion and the instructions on which it was based must be published in full. Only Peter Robinson stands between these remaining secret and transparent publication, because the only privilege which protects them is his, which he can waive. His failure to do so in the 2 weeks since he received the opinion suggests he is not as interested in transparency as he would have us believe.

"So, now that Sir Christopher Kelly has spoken I trust Mr Robinson will do the right thing and stop hiding his secret advice."
