Where was Paisley when the device was planted?

13 February 2010

Statement by TUV Leader Jim Allister:-

“Ian Paisley’s calculated attack on his successor and his ‘clever device’ is interesting on many fronts, but two obvious points arise.

1. Since Ian Paisley  was at the meeting of the MLAs when the ‘clever device’ was revealed, did he rebuke Peter Robinson then, or was he part of the ‘unanimous’ backing given to Mr Robinson and his dodgy dealing? If, as appears, he was present when the device was planted why did he keep his opposition quiet till his public broadside against his successor in Friday’s News Letter? I expect a discomforted Mr Robinson would also like the answer to that question. It seems once again all is not well between the Houses of Paisley and Robinson.

2. The vigour of Ian Paisley’s attack on Robinson’s ‘clever device’ reveals just how precious he is about his legacy of terrorist-inclusive government. It is clear from his article that keeping the IRA/Sinn Fein/DUP coalition together is more important to him than anything else. What a bequest!

“Maybe in his next phone chat with his Chuckle Mate, Marty, he could get some tips on defusing devices. Though his expertise may lie more on the construction side, he doubtless knows a thing or too about dismantling devices as well.”
