Publish full inventories now - TUV

09 February 2010

Statement by TUV Leader Jim Allister:-

"With the deadline passed for decommissioning and further paramilitary organisations having claimed complete decommissioning, I repeat my earlier call for the bringing of certainty and transparency to a subject mired in scepticism by publication of full inventories of all weaponry claimed to have been decommissioned by all such groups.

"The International Decommissioning Body claims to hold this information, so why is it continuing to conceal it from the public? Whose blushes, or whose disingenuous manipulation of the process, is being protected?

"Having at various stages been promised by politicians that full transparency, even photographic verification, would attend this process, it is now time for the public to know exactly what has been decommissioned, particularly in circumstances where supposedly decommissioned Provo semtex and weaponry has turned up on active service, be it in explosive devices in Lisnaskea or in murders at Massareene.

"I for one am not naive enough to believe the self-serving affirmations of murderous organisations. If there is nothing to hide then let full inventories be published, as promised within the statutory framework of decommissioning. There must be no welching on this pivotal undertaking. I would challenge other democratic parties to join in this demand and call on the Secretary of State to stop hiding on this issue."
