Robbo is back - was he ever really away?

03 February 2010

Commenting on Peter Robinson's return as First Minister, TUV Leader Jim Allister QC said:-

"Peter Robinson's speedy return as First Minister (was he ever really away?) may have more to do with an anxiety to reassert control over his divided party than the consequence of a single legal opinion.

"Counsel's opinion deals only with such discrete issues as were put to counsel arising from the Ministerial Code. It does not deal with the issues which the Parliamentary Commissioner, the Assembly Commissioner and the police have undertaken to investigate. Will counsel's opinion now be published, along with the precise instructions on which it was based? This is important in the public interest. Also, is the public purse paying for this Opinion?"
