Allister welcomes local Wrightbus order

21 December 2009

TUV Leader Jim Allister has warmly welcomed the success of Wrightbus in winning an important local order from Translink for 60 new buses.

In a statement Mr Allister said:-

"Wrightbus is a bulwark of the local economy, providing much needed jobs and a product of world renown. It has done remarkably well in winning orders worldwide, but it is particularly pleasing, at a time of economic downturn, to see it win a local order for new buses. This is a 'win, win' situation for Northern Ireland.

"The Translink fleet undoubtedly needs extensive renewal. So, I trust this order will be the precursor for more and that DETI will play its part in enabling more fleet replacement to be undertaken by Translink.

"When you see the modern and quality product which Wrightbus produces and then compare it with some of the existing Translink stock, then you get a glimpse of the benefit which will be brought to the travelling public by these new local buses.

"At the start of this year there was a threat of redundancies at Wrightbus, so it is nice to end the year on a high. The dedicated management and workforce at Wrightbus are to be congratulated for another success and for sustaining this major employer through difficult times."
