DUP surrender on policing and justice underway - Allister
03 December 2009
Statement by TUV Leader Jim Allister QC:-"It is clear the predictable roll-over by the DUP on policing and justice is underway. Peter Robinson has blinked, again. Hence his joint letter with IRA commander McGuinness inviting nominations for a Justice Minister and indications of an early nomination. Meanwhile the DUP/Sinn Fein nominated Attorney General has reserved a suite of offices close by the Law Courts as his workplace.
"Despite all the pretence and bluster the DUP is well on its way to delivering on IRA/Sinn Fein's key strategic objective of an end to British control of the two most potent symbols of sovereignty, policing and justice. Sinn Fein's days of meddling in policing and justice have just been brought a whole lot closer as Peter Robinson agrees to start the process of nominating the puppet minister.
"As DUP 'pre-conditions' wither on the vine it seems clear Mr Robinson has won his internal battle over his dissenters. Once more clinging to office has been the overriding consideration.
"I make it clear again that no Unionist should be facilitating the transfer of policing and justice powers to an Executive in which IRA/Sinn Fein holds veto powers. No one could be in any doubt as to Sinn Fein's malevolent meddling intent after their attack on the due process which is visiting justice on their cohort, Sean Hughes. Thus to construct an arrangement where every significant spending decision, every significant piece of legislation and every cross-cutting issue is subject to Sinn Fein veto in the Executive is to empower republicanism. The same republicanism which gave us dead policemen and dead judges will soon meddle in these vital disciplines. Another Unionist victory - I don't think so."
