BBC & UTV continue discrimination against Traditional Unionists

20 November 2009

Statement by TUV Leader Jim Allister QC

"The deliberate discrimination practised by BBC and UTV during the European Election -when they gave the pro Belfast Agreement parties 3 Party Election Broadcasts each and permitted TUV only the legal minimum of one - is continuing, no doubt to the direction and pleasure of the political establishment in Stormont and the NIO, with UUP, DUP, SDLP and Sinn Fein each given both a pre-Conference PEB and live Conference coverage, which is denied to TUV.

“Even when, as this week, the DUP devotes its broadcast to attacking TUV no right of reply is afforded. Such is the deliberate and conscious discrimination and political bias in which these outlets are indulging. However, with or without the broadcast media TUV is getting its message out and its resonance with ordinary voters is reflected in the fact that the latest DUP broadcast had nothing adverse to say about IRA/Sinn Fein, but reserved its venom for Traditional Unionists.

“As for the DUP's latest publication, "Building on Success", what a delusion! If the DUP sees their terrorist-inclusive government at Stormont as a success, then they are in no danger of reconnecting with the electorate.

“Ordinary men and women when they look at Stormont, see not success but expensive farce, with failure the abiding epithet. If the shambles in education, serial deadlock and unrepentant terrorists preening themselves in the highest offices in the land is the DUP’s vision of success, then it certainly is not mine."
