DUP division as chuckling Paisley rebukes Robinson

19 November 2009

Statement by TUV leader Jim Allister:

“Ian Paisley’s comments to RTE reveal once again just how far removed from reality he and his party have become. He praises Republicans for keeping their word on supporting law and order. However, earlier this week the parents of IRA murder victim Paul Quinn – brutally beaten to death while Paisley chuckled with McGuinness – issued a statement lambasting Conor Murphy for his defence of his IRA/Sinn Fein colleague, Sean Hughes. They pointed out that, to their knowledge, Sinn Fein has never raised any question at District Policing Partnership meetings on how the investigation into their son’s killing is going and contrasting Murphy’s approach to Hughes with his approach to their son observing:

“This is the same MP who called our son Paul a criminal and who, when asked on TV if had proof of that replied ‘No but I can speculate’.”

And:

“It seems that we have no need for police or judges. We only need to ask Mr Murphy to establish guilt or innocence”.

"South Armagh IRA murders Paul Quinn, Murphy & Gildernew lambast the action against Hughes, but in Ian Paisley's book Sinn Fein is fully supportive of law and order! There must be something in the air around Sligo.

“The former DUP leader’s comments about the need for the relationship between Peter Robinson and Martin McGuinness to “steady” is an obvious criticism of his successor’s behaviour and a call to do what it takes to keep Sinn Fein happy.

“The DUP’s approach to the Full Time Reserve will tell us much in regard to whether Peter Robinson will take his predecessor's foolish advice. The party has promised that if the Reserve goes then policing and justice is off the table. Will Robinson stick to this commitment? I doubt it.”
