Betrayal on Europe

Comment by TUV Leader Jim Allister on the imposition of the Lisbon Treaty and Tory abandonment of a referendum:-
"The double whammy of the Lisbon Treaty coming into force in a few weeks and the Conservatives shredding their referendum pledge is bad news for anyone interesting in protecting UK sovereignity and resisting the emerging European Superstate. Under Lisbon we will see more and more undemocratic imposition from Brussels and all the appratus of EU statehood put in place.
"Whereas the primary disgrace is that the Labour Government rammed this through without consulting the people, the effect of the Tory renege is to copper-fasten this grave constitutional damage.
"Being unable to repatriate powers without the consent of the other EU members, I believe the Tory strategy will fail and they should now pledge a referendum on our future EU membership. That will increasingly become the fundamental issue, and as more powers haemorrhage to Brussels it cannot be dodged."
