Allister Responds to IMC Report

04 November 2009

“It would appear that the Republican transfer window is open and that recruits are heading from the ranks of the Provisionals to the various “dissident” groups.

“That is the import of the IMC’s statement that former IRA men are assisting those who are currently engaged in violence. The truth is that it is in the interests of mainstream Republicans to don the dissident mantel in order to do what they do best as one Sinn Feiner once so succinctly put it.

“The myth that there is some great distinction between those Republicans currently in government and those who are out employing the gun and the bomb has been dealt a huge blow by this admission. Even a tool of the “peace process” like the IMC cannot deny the obvious reality that the threat we face today is closely linked to those who are supposedly committed to non-violence.

“I utterly reject the IMC’s blatant attempt to meddle in political matters by suggesting that there is some link between the devolution of policing and justice and ending violence. Just as the DUP ridiculed the Secretary of State’s suggestion that investment was being held up because of a delay in devolving policing and justice, Traditional Unionists will rightly dismiss the IMC’s attempts to create a phoney link between policing and justice and ongoing Republican terrorism”.
