Rash of IRA threats in constituency of Joint First Minister

09 October 2009

Statement by TUV Leader Jim Allister

"Last night four former members of the security forces in the Mid Ulster area were warned of threats on their lives from republican terrorists, but this time the organisation named as making the threat was not the dissidents, but the IRA! Earlier two of these people were told they were under threat from the 'Continuity IRA', but the latest threats came from the mainstream IRA, so far as there is a difference.

"The increasing level of republican activity is a matter of considerable concern, yet in this area, as elsewhere, the crazed policy of withdrawing PPWs from ex security personnel is continuing. Is it going to take someone to be murdered before the authorities waken up. What an indictment and scandal that in recent months and years while PPWs have been withdrawn from those who served their country, 14 convicted terrorists have been cleared to carry such weapons." back to list
