Allister Questions Provo links with “dissidents”

08 October 2009

“Events following the death of convicted Provisional IRA man John Brady raise serious questions about the relationship between the Provisionals and so-called dissident republicans.

“Brady was jailed for murdering an RUC officer in an IRA bombing. It is interesting to note that today’s Irish News states the four masked men who dressed in combat clothing and stood over Brady’s coffin “are understood to be drawn from different republican organisations and comprise Real IRA, Continuity IRA, INLA and former Provisional IRA members.”

“The question must arise if there is similar information about those who fired shots over his coffin.

“It has long been my belief that there are clear connections between those whose political proxies partner pro-Agreement Unionists in government and so-called dissidents. These events will add to the suspicion that there is more than just a continuation of old IRA tactics in recent manifestations of Republican terrorism.

"It is incumbent on the PSNI to thoroughly investigate these shows of republican paramilitarism and, in particular, the unlawful firing of shots.

“Furthermore, I call upon Sinn Fein to condemn the firing of shoots and ask upon anyone with information about the incident to come forward to the police.”
