Sinn Fein pushing dogmatic Irish language agenda

11 May 2004

DUP European election candidate, Jim Allister QC, has attacked Sinn Fein’s proposal that all European Union documentation should be printed in Irish at the cost of thousands upon thousands.

Jim Allister said, “Sinn Fein is blindly driven by republican dogma.  When de Brun was Trimble’s Health Minister she wasted hundreds of thousands of pounds on peddling Irish on all official documentation.  Though needy patients lay on trolleys, she insisted on wasting valuable resources on the advancement of mumbo jumbo.

Now, she has declared her intention of having the EU waste millions of euros on recognising Irish and publishing a version of all documentation in her dead language.  I will vigorously oppose such nonsense.  With our farmers and fishermen living on the breadline, it says all one needs to know about Sinn Fein that they prefer to waste scarce resources on promoting Irish!”
