Maskey's mask slips again

22 September 2009

Statement by TUV Leader Jim Allister

"In the days before the Massereene murders Sinn Fein was denouncing essential security surveillance operations. Now, with the threat of renewed IRA terrorism at a new high, on cue, IRA/Sinn Fein Policing Board Member, convicted bank robber Maskey, condemns the police operation to curb ease of movement by republican terrorists. And, this from a party some fondly pretend now fully supports the rule of law and which demands devolution of policing and justice.

"Maskey would be better employed in explaining the weekend expose in the 'Sunday Times' as to how supposedly decommissioned semtex is still being used by republican terrorists. How does Sinn Fein, and for that matter their partner in government who accepts their bona fides, explain that?

"Maskey whines about the police focusing their 'stop and check' operation in republican areas, well where does he think these attacks will emanate from? If republican communities entertain terrorists, then this is a 'community policing' which they should expect."
