Allister again questions official silence on IRA arms find

27 August 2009

Statement by TUV Leader Jim Allister

“On 1st August 2009 I publicly challenged the PSNI as to why it had concealed a substantial IRA arms find in a dwelling house in Magherafelt on 24 July 2009.

"The police response was muted with some refuge taken in the need for forensic examination of the items found. Now, 4 weeks on I again call on the PSNI to come clean on what was found and to state specifically

a)      what type and quantity of weapons were found;

b)      were explosives found;

c)      what other items were found.

Surely, by now they know what was found and can publicly confirm same.

"As I stated at the time, “Protecting the IRA blushes, over weaponry which was supposedly decommissioned, may be politically convenient, but it is not acceptable in an open and democratic society, in which there should be no place for such  illegal armaments and no cover ups.”
