Allister Comments on Terrorism at Home and Abroad

21 August 2009

The response of the Libyan Government to the release of Abdelbaset Ali al-Megrahi, in so lavishly praising the UK and Scottish Governments, is confirmation that a shady deal was done over this convicted terrorist. Sadly, and not for the first time, bearing in mind the shameful mass release of terrorists in this Province and the recent abandonment of several extradition cases, politics overruled justice.

Meanwhile, back home we have a party of government up to its neck in organising a ghoulish glorification of terrorism at Galbally GAA ground. Minister McCausland may rightly deplore what happened, but he conveniently forgets that it was his partner in government, IRA/Sinn Fein, which orchestrated the event and arranged for the appearance of masked and armed men – itself illegal.

This event requires not just investigation by the GAA but by the PSNI. The appearance of armed men, whether with replica weapons or not, is still a criminal offence, even in Northern Ireland with its terrorist-inclusive government. Accordingly, I am writing to the Chief Constable to formally complain and invite a full police investigation.
