Allister praises Maiden City Festival
10 August 2009
Following a visit to the Maiden City Festival in Londonderry, TUV Leader Jim Allister congratulated the organisers on their foresight and expertise in organising such events.
Commenting Mr Allister said, “At a time when some would pour scorn on the past and denigrate our history, the dramatic account of the Seige, as told at St Columb’s Cathedral, was quite inspiring. It so encapsulated the actuality and significance of this vital event in our rich history as to make it something I wish every young person in Ulster had been able to see. Ours is a culture and history of which we can be rightly proud.
“Likewise, the exhibitions in the Apprentice Boys Memorial Hall were superb.
“I congratulate the Apprentice Boys for all the hard work and dedication which went into making the Festival such a success. I trust the culmination in the celebrations on Saturday will round off a great week.”
