Allister welcomes Orange rejection of Sinn Fein talks

17 July 2009

TUV Leader Jim Allister has welcomed the forthright rejection by Drew Nelson, Grand Secretary of the Orange Order, of talks between the Order and IRA/Sinn Fein.

Commenting Mr Allister said:-

"It is refreshing, at a time when most Unionist politicians have sold out on the issue – to the point of cavorting in government with IRA/Sinn Fein leaders - that the Grand Secretary has the moral and political courage to say what is right and to expound a principled stand. As the primary organisation of Protestantism it is right that the Order takes a stand on these issues. The deliberate genocidal murder visited upon the Unionist and Protestant community by the IRA, on brazen sectarian grounds, and for which IRA/Sinn Fein has no regrets, must not be whitewashed out of existence.

While a leader of Unionism connives in London with McGuinness about getting policing and justice powers to an Executive and Assembly where IRA/Sinn Fein hold the sway of veto, it's good some people still remember who Gerry Adams and Martin McGuinness really are and what they personally epitomise.”
