Republicans show true colours

16 July 2009

Statement by Traditional Unionist Voice Leader Jim Allister

"The past week of heightened attack and vicious aggression against the Protestant/Unionist minority in the Rasharkin and Dunloy areas, and upon Unionist culture and its symbols, is a reminder to all of the bigotry ingrained in the republican psyche and the incapacity of extreme republicans to tolerate any culture but their own.

The attempts to drive Protestants from their homes and repeatedly attack Orange Halls and Unionist property was not mindless violence, but the product of a deliberate campaign to cleanse these areas of any non-republican identity. It is the same "ourselves alone" mentality that fired the IRA's campaign of terrorism. What we've seen at work, both in County Antrim and in North Belfast, is part of the monster which Sinn Fein created. I was not surprised, therefore, that included on the graffiti daubed on Dunloy Orange Hall were affirmations of support for the Provisional IRA. Let no one forget, this wicked organisation is an affiliate of a party in Government, Sinn Fein.

Condemnation has rightly flowed from many quarters, not least those who the rest of the year preach the false gospel that republicanism has so changed it is fit for government. The past week has been a timely rebuke for the sanitisers of IRA/Sinn Fein and reminder to us all of the unalterable venom of republicanism towards all things British.

If Sinn Fein is truly interested in supporting the rule of law then let them ensure the community they represent gives up those who practice what they taught them."
