DUP Insult to Democratic Unionists

03 July 2009

Statement by TUV Leader Jim Allister:-

"After his humiliation in the European Election Peter Robinson talked fleetingly about seeking to re-connect with the voters, but now, gratuitously, he insults one third of Unionist voters by equating their democratic use of the ballot box to terrorists' use of the bomb and the bullet. This monstrous insult to every Unionist who voted for me demonstrates just how divorced those, who have made convicted terrorists their buddies in government, are from rank and file Unionists.

“TUV has no links with any movement which has employed violence. The DUP, on the other hand, have elevated the IRA’s political apologists to the very heart of devolved government. They are intent on propping up terrorists in government. TUV are dedicated to removing them.

“While Peter Robinson lauds the “gospel” of devolution he omits to mention is that it is the Gospel According to Martin McGuinness. First the DUP had their Twelve Apostles now they are all evangelists for terrorist inclusive government. TUV will gladly refute them every opportunity. As for the salesmen, a more pitiful and inept bunch have rarely graced government.

“An Executive which can be held to ransom by Sinn Fein/IRA as and when they see fit – as it was for five months until the DUP rolled over to Republican demands – and which has brought chaos to our education system is not the route to Ulster’s salvation. Indeed, having in your government those dedicated to the state’s destruction is fatal to Northern Ireland’s interests.

“There was a time when Peter Robinson and others in the DUP recognised this reality. On 10th April 1998 he issued a press release asking:

“Did thousands of our fellow citizens die and tens of thousands become maimed in order to secure cabinet positions for Adams and McGuinness and set up a united Ireland process?”

“Today a similar question can quite reasonably be put to the DUP”.
