TUV has room for all traditional unionists - Allister

09 June 2009

Speaking at a "Thank You" event for TUV election workers in Lurgan Town Hall tonight Jim Allister said TUV had delivered a body blow to the terrorist-inclusive regime at Stormont from which it was reeling.

In the course of his remarks Mr Allister said:-

"Through the democratic process tens of thousands of Traditional Unionists, with vigour and determination, have stunned the political establishment and demonstrated that terrorists in government was something this growing segment of Unionists would never accept. Instead, this disenfranchised community is determined to be heard and will use every upcoming election to strengthen their cause till the day came when goverment was a terrorist-free zone.

Not only did our magnificant first preference vote show the resolve of reinvigorated Traditional Unionists but the pattern of our transfers demonstrated that those who by their deception and betrayal gave us Sinn Fein to rule over us, would not be easily forgiven or ever again have the opportunity to misuse the votes of those that hitherto they had taken for granted. TUV is here and here to stay. We have a mission from which we will not be deflected.

As we build our Party there is still room for activists whose heart is not in the Parties in which they, up to now, have stayed. Now, that a growing and viable alternative exists, which far closer embraces their core beliefs, I make it plain that there is room in the TUV for such people. Accordingly, as we launch a fresh recruitment drive I invite those disillusioned and troubled by the direction of others to come on board so that together we can rebuild and move forward.

It wasn't easy for me to take the stand I took, but what is the point in being in politics, if principles don't count for something, nay everything."
