Allister nails vote splitting lie

01 June 2009

“We have had much false propaganda from the DUP about vote splitting. The reality is that Dianne Dodds is the vote splitter in this election. She was the candidate who entered a contest against two sitting MEPs.

“The priority for all Unionists should be to ensure that two Unionist seats in Brussels are retained. Sadly, for the DUP, it is more important to defeat TUV. Their aim in this election is same as that of their governmental partners, Sinn Fein – to defeat Jim Allister.

“If the DUP were genuinely concerned about thwarting the advance of Republicans they would not have placed them at the heart of government and gifted Martin McGuinness the position of Joint First Minister.

“As I have travelled around this Province I have been encouraged by the number of people who see right through the DUP’s self-serving propaganda. Ordinary Unionists are not DUPes. They know that you cannot share government will Sinn Fein/IRA and then pretend concern about their electoral advancement.

“The way for Unionists to secure a double victory over Sinn Fein/IRA is to give their first preference vote to the one candidate with a track record of 24/7 opposition to Republicans and then transfer to all other pro-Union candidates on the ballot paper. That way two Unionists seats will be retained and Sinn Fein defeated.”
