Allister visits Saver Naver

01 June 2009

Traditional Unionist Voice leader Jim Allister has visited South Armagh victims’ group Saver/Naver. Commenting afterwards the sitting MEP said:

“It was chilling to see the 1500 names of victims of IRA terrorism commemorated on their wall of remembrance. To think that every name represented a son, a daughter, a father or a mother truly was heartbreaking. It is all the more heart rending when one remembers that those who made the wicked decision that they should die now sit in our government.

“The 2006 Victims and Survivors Order which defines a victim as one who has suffered as a result of a “conflict related incident” is an insult to each and everyone of these innocent victims.

“While the 2006 Order was passed during the days of Direct Rule, devolution has done noting to rectify the obscenity of victim and perpetrator being lumped together. This is because the DUP have agreed to a form of devolution which gives Sinn Fein/IRA a veto over any change. It is a cruel deception for the DUP to claim in the run up to an election that they have the power to change it.”
