Allister gathers national support

18 May 2009

As UKIP rises significantly in the national opinion polls, TUV Leader, Jim Allister  MEP has welcomed the backing locally of their Kilkeel Councillor, Henry Reilly and revealed that among British MEPs who have contributed an endorsement to his postal election literature is the UKIP Leader, Nigel Farage.

Mr Farage is quoted as saying, “In the constant battle against the EU’s power grab, Jim Allister is the one Ulster MEP you can always rely on to speak up and defend national sovereignty, and to do it with powerful logic and strength.”

Mr Allister has not yet revealed what other GB MEPs have provided comments of support, giving rise to speculation that some Tory MEPs might feature, which would be embarrassing for the UUP in light of their much trumpeted alliance with the Tories. It is known that Jim Allister enjoys good relations with the Eurosceptic wing of the Conservative Party.
