Allister hits out at PEACE money to terrorists

12 May 2009

Sitting MEP Jim Allister has written to the head of the Special EU Programs Body highlighting the plight of victims’ group West Tyrone Voice.

Mr Allister said:

“It is nothing short of a scandal that genuine victims’ groups are being squeezed out of existence while money is lavished on organizations which openly associate with terrorist perpetrators. Almost half a million pounds went to one such group in Strabane recently. The agenda is clear and outrageous.

“Given SEUPB’s own imbalanced make-up (something which I have highlighted in the past), I am far from confident that they will be concerned about this situation but the fact remains that it does much to diminish the reputation of PEACE funding and its administrators. By their deeds they are known.

“Despite the pious words from SEUPB, from time to time, about respect for single identity groups, they are just words, contradicted by the propositions in this case from Border Action that WTV should partner with groups which represent those who made them victims.

“I have demanded to know what SEUPB proposes to do to ensure some semblance of justice for WTV.”
