Allister hopes for better news from Wrightbus

09 April 2009

Following a meeting today with managements and unions at Wrightbus, Traditional Unionist MEP Jim Allister said he was more optimistic that the level of redundancy may not need to be as great as initially anticipated.

Mr Allister said: “I commend the tremendous efforts made by all over the last few weeks to mitigate the upcoming job losses. Whereas any losses are regrettable if less than the expected 235 can be attained then it will be the result of a lot of hard work by management and unions.

Wrightbus are a vital part of the Ballymena economy and epitomise much of the worth and stability of family business in NI. In the present global climate attaining orders is not easy but I am satisfied that Wrightbus are doing their utmost to fill their order book. Locally Translink and Education and Library Boards can help and I trust that we will see progress there in the coming weeks and months.”
